THE KINGDOM ASSIGNMENT 2 challenges the reader to participate in a quest for true spiritual significance, based upon the Parable of the Rich Young Ruler. The Rich Young Ruler was a prosperous and successful person who was searching for spiritual fulfillment, but was unwilling to surrender the one thing he treasured in order to find it. The writers pose the question, what is the one thing you really treasure in this life? This book will lead you on a journey to discover your personal "one thing". It examines the parable through a postmodern perspective of achievement and success, lending contemporary relevance to the Biblical story.

Authors Denny and Leesa Bellesi chronicle the stories of individuals who accepted the challenge of KINGDOM ASSIGNMENT 2, to give away something they really treasure, see where it leads them, and how it changed their lives. The specifics of the assignment required the original group of 1000 participants to sell something of at least $100 in value, and donate the proceeds to a community charity. One of the accounts which moved me most was that of Colin, a nine-year-old boy with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and asthma. He was one of the first volunteers for this assignment and gave $100 from his savings. He is obviously a little guy with a big heart.

The examination of this parable leads the reader to ask some probing questions: How much accumulated stuff is enough?  Why is it, in a society filled with luxury cars and homes and an abundance of pleasures, people are still searching for something more?  If any of these questions make you feel a little uncomfortable, you are in good company. But, in the aftermath of the Enron financial scandal and the Catholic church cover-up of child molestation, these are vitally important questions. I found this book refreshing. These two insightful leaders have found an interesting way to capture the attention of people hungry to live a life beyond shallowness and self-absorption. They have defined the call of Jesus into a simple and clear concept of Kingdom Assignments.

THE KINGDOM ASSIGNMENT 2 follows THE KINGDOM ASSIGNMENT: WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THE TALENTS GOD HAS GIVEN YOU? The first book caught the attention of the producers of Dateline NBC, which featured an interview on the impact of the lives of 100 individuals who accepted the first assignment, to take $100 given to them by Coast Hills Community Church, invest it in God's work, and report back in ninety days. In a time when many may be tempted to feel Biblical teachings are out of step with the world we live in, these writers have affirmed the relevance of His wisdom. It will be interesting to see what the next Kingdom Assignment will be.
